Council Budget Action on Thursday, October 28th
Title: Add $150,000 to SDOT’s Pedestrian Master Plan - Crossing Improvements (MC-TR-C061) CIP Project for the NE 45th Street crossing of Interstate 5, and impose a proviso.
This Council Budget Action would add $150,000 of Transportation Fund to the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) for the Pedestrian Master Plan - Crossing Improvements (MC-TR-C061) CIP Project. This funding would support improvements to the NE 45th Street crossing of Interstate 5 to facilitate pedestrian safety across the structure.
In the 2021 Adopted Budget, the Council added $400,000 of General Fund to the Bike Master Plan - Protected Bike Lanes (MC-TR-C062) CIP Project and directed that these funds be used for bicycle and pedestrian improvements along NE 45th Street between Wallingford and the University District Light Rail Station. SDOT expended $50,000 of these funds in 2021, and has $350,000 remaining unexpended for this purpose. These unexpended capital appropriations will carry-forward into 2022 unless affirmatively abandoned by legislative action.
This Council Budget Action would direct the remaining $350,000 of unexpended funds in the Bike Master Plan - Protected Bike Lanes (MC-TR-C062) CIP Project, together with the new $150,000 in the Pedestrian Master Plan - Crossing Improvements (MC-TR-C061) CIP Project towards facilitating non-motorized safety across the NE 45th Street crossing of Interstate 5 that connects the Wallingford neighborhood with the University District neighborhood which has a new Link light rail station.
This Council Budget Action would impose the following proviso:
"Of the appropriations in the 2022 budget for the Seattle Department of Transportation's Mobility Capital BSL, $500,000 is appropriated solely for non-motorized safety improvements for the NE 45th Street crossing of Interstate 5 and may be spent for no other purpose."
